This is  a totally unique Afro Jazz Experience, a MWALIMU EXPRESS ALLSTAR QUARTET: CAMILLA GEORGE, KADIALY KOUYATE, MULELE MATONDO AFRIKA  &  PAT THOMAS

 

This quartet will meet for the first time at sound check, so come and worship the Spirit  of Afro Jazz, the divine Duende of Impro and the astonishing sound of these cats!!! They're  gonna blow, in stereo and if you  can whistle a few notes, they can get you in the show. Get ready for one of the finest musical encounters of the London Jazz Fest!

  • Camilla George is an award winning alto sax soloist, member of  Tomorrows Warriors,  Jazz Jamaica and Courtney Pine's Venus Warriors and now leader of the CAMILLA GEORGE QUARTET.
  • Kadialy Kouyate was born into the great line of the Kouyaté Griots in Southern Senegal and over the last decade he has stunned  audiences at premiere league venues worldwide. A singer songwriter and outstanding kora virtuoso inspired by the West Africa Griot repertoire, Kadialy has also been featured in many collaborative albums and projects .
  • Mulele Matondo Afrika, Kinshasa-born gutar and bass god,  started playing music at an early age, later establishing himself in Zimbabwe as a successful bassist, guitarist and arranger with a stunning take on his home-grown Congolese style, before becoming one of London's  leading band leaders and in demand musical collaborators .
  • Pat Thomas...leading keyboard improvisor, composer, collaborator with Derek Bailey, Tony Oxley, Lol Coxhill, Steve Beresford, Orphy Robinson, Evan Parker , John Russell  and, last time we saw him play, Tony Allen .
